Amy Sprague Moir studied piano and voice at James Madison University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in music education. In 2008, she graduated with a Master of Music Education from Florida State University where she focused her research on adolescent changing voices. She has completed 18 years of music teaching for Fairfax County Public Schools mostly at the middle and high school levels. From 2013-2016, she served as Fine and Performing Arts Department Chair. During her tenure at Rachel Carson Middle School, the choir program continually served over 200 students in five different ensembles. While teaching there, the ensembles consistently received superior ratings at adjudicated festivals and district assessments. Students annually represented the school at All Virginia Middle School Honor Choirs, Southern Division Honor Choirs, and National Honor Choirs. The Advanced Women’s Chorus was selected for performance at the Virginia Music Educators Conference 2008. She has been working as the Choral Director at Woodson High School since 2016. Amy Moir served as the conductor of the Junior Choir at Vienna Presbyterian Church and as an accompanist for the Youth Choirs. In addition to her teaching obligations at Woodson, she currently works as a piano accompanist for local choirs and musicians throughout the area. She actively performs as a soprano soloist throughout the area. Her newest endeavor is as chairperson of Caritas NoVA, a local women’s chamber ensemble with the mission of charitable concerts for local non-profit organizations. Mrs. Moir works as a clinician, conductor, accompanist, and adjudicator on the state and district level for choral music. Mrs. Moir served as Fairfax County Choral Directors Association Treasurer from 2005-2011. From 2014-2016 she served as coordinator of the All Virginia Middle School Honor Choirs sponsored by Virginia ACDA. She currently serves as the President of the Virginia Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. She is a member of the Virginia Music Educators Association and enjoys attending conferences to connect with colleagues, refresh instructional strategies, and learn new material. When not pursuing music, she spends her time with her twin boys, daughter, husband, and two dogs.
